About
Jenna Bitar's practice investigates the relationship between intuition, environment, and human agency through abstract painting. Her work is rooted in the belief that perception, emotion, and decision-making are shaped by the environments we inhabit, both natural and constructed. Rather than treating intuition as an abstract or spiritual phenomenon, she approaches it as a learned sensitivity, developed through sustained exposure to place, material, and sensory experience.
Working primarily with abstraction, Bitar creates paintings that operate as aerial and psychological landscapes. Her compositions draw from recurring organic patterns found across scales of nature, from cellular structures and leaf veins to river systems and geological formations. These repeated structures function as visual evidence of underlying systems that influence human behavior beyond conscious control.
Materiality plays a central role in her process. Bitar works with a combination of acrylics and self-made organic pigments derived from natural elements such as plant matter, minerals, and water. The process is responsive rather than directive, allowing material behavior and environmental conditions to inform each work. This approach positions the artist not as a controller of outcome, but as a mediator between material, memory, and place.
Across her practice, Bitar explores themes of free will, impermanence, intimacy, and origin. Her work proposes that identity and agency emerge through continuous interaction with environment, challenging the notion of autonomy as something separate from the natural systems that shape us.
